Best Rated Winter Sports Locations in Colorado

Choosing a hands-down best winter sports location is a pretty opinionated task. So, we broke it down into a few of the most popular winter sports to give us a little breathing room as we list our favorite winter sports locations in Colorado. But even choosing one for each sport is hard, so just keep in mind, while we have selected one for each, there are so many amazing, beautiful, and hidden gems in Colorado. It’s up to you to find your favorite.

Skiing

If we’re using the “biggest is the best” mantra, Vail is our winner for best skiing in Colorado. It is the biggest ski area in the entire state and has one of the most popular ski towns as well. This means the skiing is not only perfect, but there is also plenty to do when you’re in need of a break from the slopes. The long, wide runs are perfect for beginners looking for lots of room to get the hang of it and plenty of space for those more experienced to enjoy the run at the same time. It boasts of 5,289 acres of ski terrain which means it has every type of run you can imagine. Vail is a one-of-a-kind experience and fun for the whole family.

Snowboarding

Copper Mountain is one of many snowboarder’s favorite resorts. While it’s about half of the acreage of Vail, only 2,465 acres, there is still plenty of room for all. Just like Vail, it has a nice little town below to shop around, grab a bite to eat, or just take a break with the kids. And when you’re ready to hit the hill again, there are 3 chairlifts throughout the village to take you where you want to go.

Tubing

This low-key winter sport is totally underrated. Who doesn’t love flying headfirst down a hill with the wind licking your face? This should be an Olympic sport! We choose Fraser Tubing Hill, located in the heart of Fraser, as one of the best locations for tubing. It’s home to some of the best tubing in the state and is fun for the whole family. What’s great about Fraser Tubing Hill is the shorter rental times, only 60-90 minutes rental period so you’re free to enjoy for as long or as little as you like.

Snowmobiling

While we could mention Telluride for nearly any winter sport, we chose it for snowmobiling for a few reasons. Telluride is home to some incredible snowmobiling tours, including half day, full day, and a special tour with a lunch stop and a soak in the Dunton hot springs. These tours are fun for all riders, even beginners. Telluride offers snowmobile rentals as well if you don’t have your own or don’t want to bring yours.
